In an effort to show that Allegheny students support their local Meadville community a group of students created the Meadville Challenge. This is a project that asks students to pledge to shop at local businesses for the month of September and to continue that practice throughout the year. As stated in their promotional brochure for students, the planners say, "We value the people and places that make Meadville the city we love. We support businesses that continue to provide unique and quality products."

Meadville businesses may also register with the group and receive an "I love Gators" sign for their window that can include a student discount if they have one.
